6 Reasons Why You Should Skip the iPhone 14

iPhone 14 New smartphones come out every year. Apple fans anticipate the latest iPhone release like clockwork. It’s a tradition that goes back to 2007 when the first iPhone unveils. Most tech enthusiasts know that Apple typically announces its new iPhones in October. But what’s important isn’t just when they come out, but whether you need to upgrade right now or not.

The older versions of the iPhone are still excellent devices, so how do you know if it makes sense for you to skip the iPhone 14 and wait for the next one?

Here are six reasons why you should skip the iPhone 14 and keep your current phone instead.

 iPhone 14

Your iPhone is Still Great

A lot of people upgrade every year, especially when a new version comes out. But there are plenty of times when it makes sense not to upgrade. Your iPhone boasts an excellent camera, especially if it was released in the last few years.

Although Apple did improve the iPhone 14’s camera module, the noteworthy upgrade—the increase to a 48MP sensor—is exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro.

You Don’t Care About Augmented Reality or Animoji

Apple is notorious for having its own augmented reality features in its phones, but it doesn’t mean you have to upgrade if those features aren’t something that excites you. If they’re not important enough for you, then there’s no need to buy an iPhone that has them built-in.

No USB-C Port Yet

We had hoped that the iPhone 14 would be the first USB-C iPhone. However, the latest iPhone still has Lightning—the same port we’ve had since 2012.

You might have heard that the EU wants all new phones to have USB-C. In 2022, that idea officially became law in the EU. However, that new legislation won’t go into effect until 2024. So, if you were waiting for a USB-C iPhone, you’ll need to wait a little longer.

The iPhone 14 Didn’t Get a 120Hz Display

Although Apple’s ProMotion feature was a major addition to the iPhone 13 Pro, it hasn’t been included in the base iPhone 14. This means the display is still only 60Hz.

The iPhone 14 has a starting price of $799, which is still a lot of money for many people, despite Apple referring to it as a “budget” iPhone.

The iPhone 13’s Processor

Although the iPhone 14 Pro packs Apple’s latest and greatest, the A16 Bionic, the regular iPhone 14 is powered by the older A15 Bionic chip the same one in the iPhone 13 series. Although it’s no slouch by any means, it does have some limitations.

One of the biggest challenges with any mobile chipset is managing heat, and under high load, the A15 Bionic definitely gets hot.

Now Is a Great Time to Buy an iPhone 13

When Apple releases a new iPhone, its old model typically goes on sale at a steep price cut. Now that the iPhone 14 is here, Apple slashed the price of the iPhone 13 by $100, making it just $699.

That’s a good deal, considering that the iPhone 13 packs almost the same battery life, is powered by the same chipset, and has a comparable camera module.

And if you’re thinking about going Pro but don’t want to shell out a grand, you may want to consider picking up the iPhone 13 Pro instead of the iPhone 14.
